چکیده

Early clinical pharmacology studies of oral and parenteral form of ciprofloxacin were begun shortly after the drug was discovered in Germany in 1982. The clinical trials programme for the efficacy of intravenous ciprofloxacin began in the USA in late 1985 and expanded throughout 1986, 1987 and April 1988. A new drug application for intravenous ciprofloxacin was submitted to the United States Food and Drug Administration.1 Ciprofloxacin is a fluorinated quinolone that is broad spectrum antibacterial agent. It is recommended for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria in lower respiratory tract, skin, bone and joint, urinary tract infections, and infectious diarrhoea.2 Although ciprofloxacin is contra-indicated in pregnancy and children3 but the drug is used unchecked, which may be prohibited by the government under rules. This study was done to evaluate the effects of ciprofloxacin administration during gestation on morphology of liver parenchyma in prenatal laboratory animals, i.e., foetuses of Wistar albino rats.

Phorbol esters, bombesin and insulin elicit differential responses on the 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase system in primary cultures of foetal and adult rat hepatocytes.

The effects of 4 beta-phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA), bombesin and insulin on 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase (PFK-2) activity, on fructose 2,6-bisphosphate concentration and on the phosphorylation state of PFK-2 were investigated in primary cultures of hepatocytes from foetal and adult rats. Bombesin stimulated PFK-2 activity and increased hexose phosphate (glucose 6-phosphate and fructose 6-p...

Human foetal hepatocytes: isolation, characterization, and transplantation.

Hepatocyte transplantation has become an alternative to orthotopic liver transplantation for the treatment of liver metabolic diseases. However, there is an increasing lack of donor organs and isolated mature hepatocytes are difficult to manipulate and cannot be expanded in vitro. It is therefore necessary to find alternative sources of hepatocytes, and different approaches to evaluate the ther...

Cell types involved in the expression of foetal aldolases during rat azo-dye hepatocarcinogenesis.

Cellular and subcellular immunolocalization of aldose isozymes and alpha-foetoprotein (AFP) was performed in rat liver during the different stages of carcinogenesis induced by 3'-methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene. During the early stages, double-labelling experiments showed that oval and transitional cells that expressed foetal aldolases did not contain adult aldolase B; this isozyme was only fo...

Receptor-mediated insulin degradation and insulin-stimulated glycogenesis in cultured foetal hepatocytes.

Insulin-stimulated glycogenesis and insulin degradation were studied simultaneously at 37 degrees C in cultured foetal hepatocytes grown for 2-3 days in the presence of cortisol. Degradation of cell-associated insulin, as measured by trichloroacetic acid precipitation, was significant after 4 min in the presence of 1-3 nM-125I-labelled insulin. This process became maximal (30% of insulin degrad...
